Falcons foil Meteors comeback 08-Mar-2006 · 11:20pm The Meteors hosted the Falcons Wednesday night for Game #4 of their best-of-seven quarterfinal series at the Fort Erie Leisureplex, looking to tie up the series after winning Game #3 in St. Catharines Tuesday evening. The Mountainview Homes Falcons had other plans however. St. Catharines came out flying in the first period, netting three goals before the first intermission. Mike Dahms opened the scoring at 9:40 with his first goal of the playoffs. Andrew Kilcar and Joel Shaw notched assists on the play. Mike Chmielewski netted his third goal of the postseason, a short-handed goal at the 11:28 mark of the same period to give the Falcons a 2-0 goal lead. Nick Petriello and Sean Hall recorded assists, Hall's first point of the playoffs.
Fort Erie's Joey Christiano notched a power-play goal at 17:40, with Andrew Letwin and Nick Chambers adding helpers, to cut the Falcons lead to 2-1. With 8 seconds left in the first period, Jamie Heywood shot his first goal of the season, a power-play goal, past Meteors netminder Marcus Menard, to give St. Catharines a two goal lead again at 3-1. Mike Dahms and Kelsey Blinkhorn were awarded assists on the man-advantage goal. The Falcons kept the momentum going in the second period, with Nick Petriello scoring his 4th goal of the playoffs 21 seconds into the period to extend the Falcons lead to 4-1. Chris Stevenson was the lone assist on the power-play goal. The only other goal of the second period came at 2:39 when Mike Kusy beat Falcons goaltender Sean Hall to bring the score to 4-2 early in the period. Mike Folkes and Dan Coates assisted on the even-strength goal. The Meteors battled hard the remainder of the period and most of the third period, but the Falcons held their ground as best they could until Cody Keating scored a late power-play goal at the 19:02 minute mark of the third period. Nick Chambers and Chris Rylands assisted on the goal, which brought the score to 4-3 with 52 seconds remaining in the period. Even with thei goalie pulled out of the net for an extra attacker, Fort Erie could not connect on a fourth goal to tie the game, and St. Catharines jumped to a (3-1) series lead with the victory Wednesday night in Fort Erie. Game #5 takes place on Friday, March 10th, when the Fort Erie Meteors visit St. Catharines to face the Falcons inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena for a 7:30pm start time. Come early to get a good seat, but you'll only need the edge!
