23-Mar-2006 · 10:45pm The Falcons dug themselves a deep hole Thursday night as they dropped Game #4 of the best-of-seven semifinal series 6-1 against the Thorold Blackhawks. The loss for the Falcons gives the Blackhawks a 3-1 series lead, with Game #5 Friday night inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena in St. Catharines. The Falcons opened the scoring Thursday night after Andrew Kilcar netted his 2nd goal of the postseason. Kevin Floris notched an assist on Kilcar's goal, which gave St. Catharines a 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the game.
That was it for the Falcons, as for the remaining 58 minutes or so, the Blackhawks dominated the game and sent the Falcons back to St. Catharines with their third loss in a row. Joey Martin tied the game late in the first period, around the 16:52 mark. Steve Zmudczynski and Steve Chappell assisted on the Blackhawks first of six goals. Shots on goal during the first period were 13 for Thorold, 4 for St. Catharines. Thorold stormed the Falcons crease in the second period, netting four goals over the 20 minutes of play. Falcons goaltender Sean Hall allowed 4 goals on 11 shots during the period, while Blackhawks netminder Sean Ramanauskas stopped all seven Falcons shots. Scoring in the 2nd period for Thorold were Joey Koudys, Joey Martin (2), and Chris Risi. Thorold's second goal 41 seconds into the 2nd period came after Hall left his crease to stop the puck from sliding behind the net along the boards, except it took a funny bounce and came right out in front of the Falcons net to the open Blackhawks forward who easily netted the goal in the open net. Thorold put away the game for good in the third period after scoring their sixth goal of the game at the 4:00 minute mark. Thorold took 10 shots in the third period, for a game total of 34, while the Falcons recorded 8 shots, for a game total of 19. Bolibruck officiated the game Thursday night, calling a fair game, handing out appropriate penalties to both clubs. The Falcons are in a do-or-die situation for Friday at home, where they will have to fend off the high-flying Blackhawks and take three games in a row in order to move on to the next round. Game #5 is set for Friday, March 24th, when the Blackhawks visit the Jack Gatecliff Arena for a 7:30pm start. Come early to get a good seat, but you'll only need the edge!
