Falls hand Falcons first loss

The last time the Niagara Falls Canucks visited the Jack
Gatecliff Arena in St. Catharines, they left the city down three games
to one in their Golden Horseshoe League Final Round Series against the
St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons.
The Falcons dropped the Canucks in the following match
to take the GHL Championship in five games, and the Canucks had all summer
to heal their wounds and prepare for a rematch in the 2007-08 season.

The first of many regular season rematches kicked off
Tuesday night inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena with the visiting Canucks
facing off against the Mountainview Homes Falcons.
The Canucks netted the first goal after a scoreless first
period. Joel Scott beat Falcons netminder Steele De Fazio 1:06 into the
second period on the power-play. Assisting on the goal for Niagara Falls
included Tyler McFadden and Nick Caligiuri.

After the goal, the second period played out like the
first with very little on-ice action until the Canucks scored for the
second time, taking a 2-0 lead. Brendan Roffey scored unassisted with
1:53 left in the second period.

The Falcons finally broke the Canucks shutout with 52
seconds remaining in the second period to make the score 2-1 before hitting
the second intermission. Daultan Leveille scored his third goal of the
season, short-handed, with an assist to Falcons newcomer Stephen Ceccanese.
The Canucks grabbed another insurance goal early in the
third period when Mike Kusy scored 1:55 into the period. Brendan Roffey
added a helper on the play for Niagara Falls to make the score 3-1.
Niagara Falls ended De Fazio's evening when he was pulled
on their fourth goal. Canucks defenseman Devon Thomson scored at 5:09
of the third period to make the score 4-1 in favour of the Canucks. Mike
Kusy assisted on the goal.
Even with Yvon Boulet in net for the Falcons for the
remainder of the period, St. Catharines couldn't bounce back against the
Falls and loss the game 4-1 at the end of 60 minutes of play.

St. Catharines went 0 for 14 on the power-play Tuesday
night, while the Canucks batted .200, going 1 for 5 on the man-advantage.
Attendance inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena Tuesday night
was announced at 330 fans.
The Falcons next game is on the road this Friday, September
21st, when they travel to Niagara Falls to complete their home and away
series against the Canucks. Game time at the Niagara Falls Memorial Arena
is set for 7:30pm.
