Sailors sink in 3rd vs. Falcons

Three of the Welland Canal Friday night to face off against the St. Catharines
Mountainview Homes Falcons for the first time this season inside the Jack
Gatecliff Arena.
The first 20 minutes of play proved scoreless for both
teams. The Falcons were penalized 6 times in the first period for 12 minutes,
while the Sailors were sent to the box three times for 6 minutes.

The Sailors scored first in the second, grabbing an unassisted
power-play goal just 20 seconds into the period. Curtis Longland put Port
Colborne ahead 1-0.
The Falcons returned the favour 15 seconds later when
Daultan Leveille scored his 6th goal of the season to tie the game 1-1.
Forward Riley Sheahan grabbed an assist on the goal.

The Falcons jumped out to a 2-1 lead with 11:42 remaining
in the second period when Ryan Elbers grabbed his third goal of the year
during a delayed penalty call against the Sailors, who were already playing
a man short from an earlier penalty call.
Neither team could pull the trigger for the remainder
of the period so the Falcons carried the 2-1 lead into the 2nd intermission.
The home team also lead in shots on net over the visiting Sailors by a
tally of 30-8 after 40 minutes of play.

The Falcons took out an insurance policy near the start
of the third period, grabbing a 3-1 lead with 16:11 remaining in the period.
Daultan Leveille recored his third point of the night with his second
goal of the game while on the power-play. Captain Kevin Floris and forward
Ryan Elbers assisted on the play.
Port Colborne continued to fight back, however, grabbing
their second goal of the game with less than 6 minutes remaining in the
third period. Longland of the Sailors grabbed his second goal of the game
to make the score 3-2.
Daultan Leveille completed his hat-trick Friday night,
giving the Falcons a 4-2 lead with just under 4 minutes remaining in the
game. Riley Sheahan's assist on the hat-trick gave him a total of 3 points
on the night for the Falcons.
The Sailors couldn't bounce back from another two goal
deficit, and the Falcons earned the win after 60 minutes of play to jump
into a three-way tie with Stoney Creek and Niagara Falls for first place
overall.

Attendance inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena Friday night
was announced at 729 fans.
The Falcons next game is on the road this Thursday, October
4th, when they travel to Thorold to face the Blackhawks. Game time on
top of the escarpment is set for 7:30pm.
The Falcons next home game is Friday, October 5th, when
the Stoney Creek Warriors visit the home of the Falcons for the first
time this season.
