05-Oct-2007 · 10:00pm

The first match between the Stoney Creek Warriors and the St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons kicked off Friday night inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena in St. Catharines.

Goaltender Steele De Fazio stood between the posts for the Falcons sporting his new red pads, while Garrett Driscoll was called to duty for the Warriors.

The two teams battled for the first 20 minutes of the game, but neither team could break through each other's defense and the first period remained scoreless. Stoney Creek owned the shots on net for the period, grabbing 8-5 over St. Catharines.

The third period was scoreless until Falcons forward Ryan Elbers beat Warriors goaltender Driscoll with a little over 8 minutes remaining in the third. The power-play goal gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead, with assists going to Leveille and Adam Moroney.

Leveille scored his second goal of the game at the 15:34 minute mark of the third period to make the score 3-0 in favour of the Falcons. The power-play goal, and the third man-advantage marker of the game for St. Catharines, was helped by Sheahan and Kevin Floris.

The Warriors finally jumped onto the scoreboard with about 50 seconds left in the third period, but it was too little too late for Stoney Creek. Jordan Gignac broke De Fazio's shutout attempt to make the final score 3-1, giving St. Catharines their 5th win of the season.

Attendance inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena Friday night was announced at 935 fans.

The Falcons next game is at home on Friday, October 12th, when the Thorold Blackhawks visit the Jack Gatecliff Arena for their first time this season. Game time is 7:30pm sharp.

The Mountainview Homes Falcons would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving Holiday this Monday, October 8th!
