Canadians score 5 in 2nd for win

Welland cruised into the Jack Gatecliff Arena Friday night for their first visit this season to face the St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons in front of a crowd of 828 fans.

The Falcons opened the game with two power-play goals in the first period, while shutting down Welland's offence. Vladimir Bessonov, wearing #8, scored first for the Falcons, at the 12:24 minute mark. Andre Abayof and JT MacDonald assisted on Bessonov's first goal of the regular season.

Riley Sheahan scored the Falcons second goal, just over 2 minutes later, when he beat Welland goaltender Chris Wills on the power-play. Both Abayof and MacDonald assisted on Sheahan's goal.

Welland woke up in the second period, scoring five goals on Falcons netminder Steele De Fazio before the 2nd intermission. Dan Ellis (2), Jake Kisac (2), and Jeff Morris scored the Jr. Canadians five goals in the second.

Bessonov scored his second goal of the game (and season) for the Falcons midway through the second period to give the Falcons their third goal of the game. Adam Moroney and Sheahan added helpers on the goal. The second period ended with Welland ahead 5-3.

The Falcons added a fourth goal in the third period to make the score 5-4 in favour of Welland. Sheahan scored his second goal of the night, but it wasn't enough for the Falcons as their time ran out and they dropped their second home game in a row inside the JGA.

The Falcons next game is on the road in Fort Erie on Saturday, October 20th, when St. Catharines faces the Meteors for a 7:45pm start.

Catch your Falcons at home next Friday, October 26th, when the Wheatfield Jr. Blades visit the Jack Gatecliff Arena for their second time this season. Game time is 7:30pm sharp!

The St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons would like to congratulate Falcons forward #9 Daultan Leveille for winning the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Division Player of the Month Award for the month of September.

Leveille recorded 8 goals and 7 assists in 6 games in the month of September for an average of 2.5 points per game.

After 10 games played to date, Leveille has 10 goals and 10 assists to lead the Falcons in scoring with 20 points. Of his 10 goals, 4 have come on the power-play and 4 while short-handed.
