Falcons battle for win in Thorold

The St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons battled to victory Thursday night, taking two points from the Thorold Blackhawks in their fourth meeting this season. It was the first victory for the Falcons against the Blackhawks, with Thorold winning two games and the two clubs tying in the other match back in October.

All three goals scored in the first period came on the power-play Thursday night inside the Thorold Community Arena. Falcons forward Stephen Ceccanese opened the scoring at the 8:26 minute mark. CJ Dickson tied the game just under 4 minutes later for Thorold.

The final goal of the period was scored just a little over 2 minutes later when Adam Moroney beat Blackhawks goaltender Marcus Menard to give St. Catharines a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission.

The Falcons grabbed an insurance goal in the second period after Brandon McGregor's goal at the halfway mark of the period. The Falcons added their fourth goal of the game, on the power-play, with less than 2 minutes to play in the period, with an unassisted goal from Falcons defenseman Andre Abayof.

Dickson netted his second goal of the game in the third period to cut the Falcons lead to 4-2, and Thorold came within one goal of St. Catharines with a marker from Eric Defelice a little over 6 minutes into the period.

The Falcons jumped out to a 5-3 lead with Ceccanese's second goal of the game, and Andre Abayof added another unassisted short-handed goal in the third to give St. Catharines a commanding 6-3 lead.

Falcons forward Riley Sheahan scored a short-handed goal with less than a minute left in the game, giving St. Catharines a convincing 7-3 win over the Thorold Blackhawks.

Swiss Chalet sponsored night

Swiss Chalet is sponsoring the Falcons home game this Friday night when the Stoney Creek Warriors visit the Jack Gatecliff Arena in St. Catharines. Game time is 7:30pm.
