Canucks shutout Falcons at JGA

The first place Niagara Falls Canucks visited Jack Gatecliff Arena for the second time this season Tuesday night to face off against the fourth place Mountainview Homes Falcons. In their earlier trip to JGA in September, the Canucks dropped St. Catharines by a score of 4-1.

The first period was quiet and calm as no scoring was registered and only four penalties were called. Falcons forward Vladimir Bessonov was called for hooking, while the Canucks took the other three infractions.

The Canucks scored first and then doubled their score in the second period. Cam McLean opened the scoring for Niagara Falls 3:19 into the second, with help from fellow Canucks forward Tyler McFadden.

McFadden scored his own goal a little over six minutes later to make the score 2-0 in favour of Niagara Falls. Nick Caligiuri and McLean assisted on McFadden's goal at the 9:24 minute mark.

Niagara Falls made a 3-0 lead for themselves with a late period goal from defenseman Matt Edwards. Helpers were announced from McLean and Caligiuri. At the end of 40 minutes of play, the Falls held on to their 3-0 lead, but the Falcons continued to outshoot the Canucks 24-17.

Nick Caligiuri scored the Falls fourth goal in the third period to give Niagara Falls a 4-0 lead over St. Catharines. The Falls struck a fifth time, this time from Phil McIlhone, at the 13:54 mark of the third.

Falcons goalie Steele De Fazio was pulled from net after McIlhone's goal in the third period, being replaced by backup goaltender Yvon Boulet. De Fazio faced a total of 22 shots on the night.

Two fights late in the third period (Jackson-Edwards and Falzoi-McFadden) to finish the game as the Canucks skated away with a 5-0 win over the embarrassed Falcons before annouced crowd of 320 fans inside Jack Gatecliff Arena.

The Falcons next game is at home on Friday, November 20th, inside Jack Gatecliff Arena, when the Fort Erie Meteors travel north on the Q.E.W. for their second visit to JGA this season. Game time on Friday is set for 7:30pm sharp!
