Falcons notch 1st win of '08

Back from the Christmas break, the second place Falcons
played their first home game of 2008 Friday night inside Jack Gatecliff
Arena against the sixth place Fort Erie Meteors.

The Falcons shut out the Meteors in the first period,
and grabbed a goal for themselves. Daultan Leveille scored his 22nd of
the season at 12:46 of the first to give St. Catharines a 1-0 lead going
into the first intermission.

The Falcons jumped out to 2-0 in the second period with
Stephen Ceccanese's 10th goal of the regular season. The Meteors battled
back and scored their first of the game, when Andrew Letwin beat Falcons
netminder Steele De Fazio at 9:37 of the second on the power-play.

The Meteors tied the game 2-2 in the third period, on
the power-play again, this time from Cory Giroux. The Falcons fought back,
and nailed their third goal of the game, this time from Dylan McInnis,
even-strength, at 11:39 of the final regulation period. Leveille assisted
on the go-ahead goal.

Dan Ziraldo slid an insurance marker past Meteors goaltender
Jeff Broeker less than two minutes later, with Vladimir Bessonov and Riley
Sheahan adding helpers on the goal.
The score remained 4-2 in favour of the Falcons at the
end of 60 minutes of play, and Steele De Fazio recorded the Falcons first
win of 2008.

Attendance inside Jack Gatecliff Arena Friday night was
announced at 625 fans.
The Falcons next game is on the road this Sunday, January
6th, St. Catharines travels to Welland to face the Jr. Canadians. Game
time in Welland is set for 7:05pm.
