Welland dominates, wins 6-3

Though six points behind the Falcons in the standings
before Friday night's GOJHL game inside Jack Gatecliff Arena, Welland
came out flying against St. Catharines in the first period.
Welland scored the first of two first period goals just
7:37 into the match. Jason Duliban netted the game opener, with help from
defenseman Jake Kisac. The Jr. Canadians second goal came with just 1:20
to play in the first, when forward Mike Foy beat Falcons netminder Steele
De Fazio to give Welland a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
Kyle Gillier assisted on Foy's goal.

Falcons defenseman #18 Scott Madden left the game midway
through the first period after twisting the wrong way and falling to the
ice. He had to be helped off the ice and minutes later was taken to the
hospital to have his ankle looked at by a physician.

The second period started out with a bunch of penalties
called on both clubs. However, all infractions expired within the first
five minutes of the second period with no power-play goals. Welland scored
again in the second period to make it 3-0 in favour of the Jr. Canadians.
Dan Ellis grabbed his 38th of the season one second before the 10 minute
mark, with assists from Ryan Joseph and Zack Belcastro.

St. Catharines forward Daultan Leveille scored his 24th
of the season when Stephen Ceccanese and Leveille charged the Canadians
net on a short-handed 2-on-1. Ceccanese made a perfect pass to Leveille
to beat Welland goaltender Chris Wills, which cut Welland's lead to 3-1
before the end of the second period. Time of the goal was 16:38, which
woke up most of the Falcons fans and sent them to their feet.

The Falcons grabbed a goal to kick off the third period,
cutting Welland's lead to 3-2 just 5:35 into the third. Forward Brad Jackson
scored his 15th of the season for St. Catharines, at even-strength, with
helpers from JT MacDonald and Andre Abayof.
Welland stole another two goal lead from the Falcons
with a loud goal that rang off the top cross bar from Jr. Canadian Jake
Kisac. John Aitken and Dan Ellis assisted on Welland's 4th goal of the
game.

St. Catharines came within one goal when Ryan Elbers
scored at the 10:17 minute mark of the third to make the score 4-3 in
favour of Welland. Brandon McGregor and JT MacDonald netted points on
the play.

Welland scored a deafening insurance goal at the 13:22
mark of the period when Mike Foy scored his second of the game to quiet
most of the Falcons fans inside JGA. Jordan Atkinson and Kyle Gillier
recorded assists on the goal. Welland added an empty-net goal from Dan
Ellis at 18:40 to make it a final score of 6-3 in favour of Welland.
1,039 fans turned out Friday night to support the Falcons
inside Jack Gatecliff Arena. Welland outshot the Falcons 38-31 over three
periods of play.

St. Catharines travels down the Q.E.W. to face the Fort
Erie Meteors on Saturday, January 19th, in their next road game. Game
time in Fort Erie is set for 7:45pm.
The Falcons next home game is Friday, January 25th, when
the Wheatfield Jr. Blades visit Jack Gatecliff Arena in St. Catharines.
Game time is 7:30pm.
