Falcons wake up in 3rd & win

How do you silence a crowd inside Jack Gatecliff Arena on a Friday night? Try scoring two goals 45 seconds apart on Falcons netminder Steele De Fazio. That's what the Fort Erie Meteors did against the St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons Friday night.

Fort Erie forward Todd Krupa and Lucas Van Natter scored at 3:27 and 4:12 of the first period, respectively, to give the Meteors a two goal lead for the entire first 20 minutes of play. Both goals were at even-strength and assisted by Andrew Letwin, Ian Fairgrieve and Ed Meister. The Falcons were outshot in the first period 8-3.

St. Catharines bounced back in the second period, cutting the Meteors two goal lead to one after Dylan McInnis scored a power-play goal 1:04 into the second 20 minutes of play. Falcons captain Kevin Floris and defenseman Zack Jones added assists on the early marker.

Fort Erie jumped out to another two goal lead with 2:32 to play in the second, when Corey Waszynski beat goaltender De Fazio while he lay defenseless in his crease. The even-strength goal made the score 3-1, with helpers from former Falcon Mike Nedilsky and Dylan Patus. Once again Fort Erie outshot the Falcons, this time 9-8, for a two period total of 17-11.

St. Catharines came within a goal again, this time in the third period with 5:23 left to play. Riley Sheahan skated from his own end of the rink to score his 17th goal of the season. Ryan Elbers assisted on the goal.

The Falcons tied up the game 3-3 with 4:11 left to play in the third when Sheahan scored his 18th goal of the season, second of the game, on the power-play. McInnis and JT MacDonald added assists. The Mountainview Homes Falcons jumped out to the lead for the first time Friday night with Brad Jackson's 16th goal of the season which sent Falcons fans into a frenzy. Chris Garbacz and Mike Stone assisted.

Stephen Ceccanese added the Falcons fifth goal of the game, and Dylan McInnis recorded his second goal of the night with under a minute to play in the third to make the final score 6-3 in favour of St. Catharines. McInnis's goal also notched him the 1st star of the game.

Attendance inside JGA Friday night was announced at 754 fans. Referees included Darcy Burchell and Scott Brown, while the linesmen were Jeff Lawson and Kyle Smith.

The Falcons hit the road this Sunday when they travel to Welland for their last time this regular season. Game time against the Jr. Canadians is set for 7:05pm.

The Mountainview Homes Falcons are back in action at Jack Gatecliff Arena on Friday, February 15th, when the Niagara Falls Canucks are in town for the first game of a home and away series next weekend. Game time inside JGA is set for 7:30pm sharp!
