Falcons upset Canucks 4-2

Garry Lariviere and son Trevor took over the coaching
and G.M. duties on Thursday of this week and coached his first game back
inside Jack Gatecliff Arena Friday night in front of one of the biggest
crowds of the season.

Beside the change in coaching staff, the Falcons were
playing the biggest game of their season against the visiting Niagara
Falls Canucks. The Falcons needed a win Friday night to remainin the hunt
for 2nd place overall.

The Falcons opened the game with a big goal from forward
Chris Garbacz, scoring his 8th of the season, beating Falls goaltender
Ryan Ludzik at 7:39 of the first period on the power-play. Mike Stone
and Dan Ziraldo grabbed assists on the goal.

St. Catharines made it 2-0 before the end of the first,
when Stephen Ceccanese found the back of the net at 17:24. Ryan Elbers
and Kevin Floris notched helpers on the play. Though the Falcons owned
the lead at the first intermission, Niagara Falls lead in shots on net
11-10.

Shawn Kavanaugh of Niagara Falls gave the Canucks their
first goal of the game in the second period when he beat Falcons netminder
Steele De Fazio at the 8:17 minute mark. Former Falcon Jeff Amadio assisted
on the goal.
St. Catharines jumped out to a 2-goal lead again to make
the score 3-1 near the halfway mark of the same period when Zack Jones
scored his first goal of the season, with helpers from linemates Ceccanese
and Vladimir Bessonov.

Niagara Falls scored their second goal of the game at
the 17:26 mark of the second period. Antony Candeloro beat De Fazio, while
Amadio and Steve Walters assisted. The Falcons skated into the second
intermission with a 3-2 lead, though the Canucks maintained their hold
with shots on net at 13-8, for a two-period total of 24-18.

Dylan McInnis gave St. Catharines a 4-2 lead in the third
period with another even-strength goal. Bessonov and Mark Murrary recorded
helpers on the play. The goal all but silenced Canucks fans inside JGA.

The Falcons hit the road on Saturday, February 16th,
when they travel to Niagara Falls to complete their home and away series
against the Canucks. Game time in Niagara Falls is set for 7:30pm.
St. Catharines hosts the Wheatfield Jr. Blades at their
last home game of the regular season next Friday, February 22nd, inside
Jack Gatecliff Arena. Game time for Fan Appreciation night kicks off at
7:30pm. Admission prices will be reduced for the game to $5.00 for all
age groups.
