Falcons drop Hawks 8-6

10-Oct-2008 · 9:45pm

The Mountainview Homes Falcons opened their Friday night home game against the Thorold Blackhawks with one of their fastest goals this season. With just 14 seconds off the clock in the first period of play, Falcons forward Chris Garbacz skated through traffic to beat Thorold netminder Marcus Menard to set an early pace for St. Catharines.

The Falcons continued to dominate the period with seven more goals before the first intermission. Also scoring along with Garbacz for St. Catharines were Miles Torch (4), Riley Sheahan, Luke Karaim, and Andrew Kilcar with a penalty shot marker. Thorold's Menard was pulled after the Mountainview Homes Falcons 7th goal, replaced with #1 Chad March.

Thorold's three goals came from Ryan Federman, Adam Campbell and Zach Graham. The Falcons outshot the Blackhawks 24-6 at the end of 20 minutes of play.

After a roller coaster ride of a first period, the two teams settled down in the second period, with only the Blackhawks finding the back of the net to make the score 8-3. Jamie Tyminski, with an assist to former Falcon Tanner Goode, beat Falcons backstop Tim Egloff for the lone Thorold goal of the second period. Shots were 36-16 in favour of St. Catharines after 40 minutes.

Falcons goalie Tim Egloff was pulled from the ice after Goode's goal at the 2:27 mark of the third period. Jeff Sinclair of St. Catharines swapped roles with Egloff for the remainder of the period.

The Blackhawks kept the pressure on the Falcons, but couldn't come up with the two goals needed to tie the game in the third. The Falcons skated away with a sloppy win, but a win none-the-less. The victory keeps the Falcons in third place, one point behind second place Niagara Falls, and three points behind first place Stoney Creek. Shots on net in the third period were 11-9 for St. Catharines.

The attendance Friday night was announced at 515 fans.
