Falcons drop Hawks 8-6

The Mountainview Homes Falcons opened their Friday night
home game against the Thorold Blackhawks with one of their fastest goals
this season. With just 14 seconds off the clock in the first period of
play, Falcons forward Chris Garbacz skated through traffic to beat Thorold
netminder Marcus Menard to set an early pace for St. Catharines.

The Falcons continued to dominate the period with seven
more goals before the first intermission. Also scoring along with Garbacz
for St. Catharines were Miles Torch (4), Riley Sheahan, Luke Karaim, and
Andrew Kilcar with a penalty shot marker. Thorold's Menard was pulled
after the Mountainview Homes Falcons 7th goal, replaced with #1 Chad March.
Thorold's three goals came from Ryan Federman, Adam Campbell
and Zach Graham. The Falcons outshot the Blackhawks 24-6 at the end of
20 minutes of play.
After a roller coaster ride of a first period, the two
teams settled down in the second period, with only the Blackhawks finding
the back of the net to make the score 8-3. Jamie Tyminski, with an assist
to former Falcon Tanner Goode, beat Falcons backstop Tim Egloff for the
lone Thorold goal of the second period. Shots were 36-16 in favour of
St. Catharines after 40 minutes.

The third period saw Thorold attempt a comeback with
two early goals to cut the Falcons lead to 8-6. Scoring for the Blackhawks
were Tanner Goode (Jake Braun) and Nick Caligiuri (Ryan Federman, Justin
Kochan).

Falcons goalie Tim Egloff was pulled from the ice after
Goode's goal at the 2:27 mark of the third period. Jeff Sinclair of St.
Catharines swapped roles with Egloff for the remainder of the period.
The Blackhawks kept the pressure on the Falcons, but
couldn't come up with the two goals needed to tie the game in the third.
The Falcons skated away with a sloppy win, but a win none-the-less. The
victory keeps the Falcons in third place, one point behind second place
Niagara Falls, and three points behind first place Stoney Creek. Shots
on net in the third period were 11-9 for St. Catharines.
The attendance Friday night was announced at 515 fans.
The Mountainview Homes Falcons next game is tomorrow,
Saturday, October 11th, when they participate in the GOJHL Showcase Weekend
at the St. Catharines Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Complex.
Their first game is at 7:00pm against the Chatham Maroons on Rink #1.
Their second game is Sunday, October 12th, when the face the Sarnia Legionnaires
on Rink #1 at 4:00pm.
The Falcons next game after the Thanksgiving weekend
is Friday, October 17th, when they host the Wheatfield Jr. Blades for
the third time this season. Game time inside Jack Gatecliff Arena is 7:30pm.
