Sarnia beats up Falcons

The St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons played
their second game at the GOJHL Thanksgiving Weekend Hockey Showcase on
Sunday against the Sarnia Legionnaires of the Western Conference. The
game was held on Rink #1 inside the St. Catharines Seymour-Hannah Sports
& Entertainment Complex.

The first period remained scoreless, but was filled with
its share of penalties. The Falcons were called for 4 infractions, while
Sarnia saw the penalty box 6 times. The biggest call of the period went
to Sarnia's Dave Hutchinson for a 7 minute fighting major and aggressor
penalty. He was subsequently ejected from the game.
The Falcons outshot the Legionnaires 11-7 after 20 minutes
of play.

The second period had more penalties between both clubs,
and the first two goals of the game. Sarnia found the scoreboard first
with a power-play marker at the 8:35 mark of the period. Tyler Peters
beat Falcons backstop Jeff Sinclair, with a helper from Tyler Lewis.
Sarnia made it 2-0 before the end of the period with
an even-strength goal from Craig Hottot, unassisted, at 15:11. The Legionnaires
outshot the Falcons 13-7 in the second period, for a two-period lead of
20-18.

The Falcons finally hit the scoreboard at the start of
the third period with Matt Lorito's fourth goal of the season at the 2:14
minute mark. Riley Jakobschuk assisted on the play.
Sarnia grabbed their two-goal lead back from the Falcons
with Matt Abercrombie's goal just over two minutes later. Clark MacPherson
added an assist.
The Legionnaires continued to dominate the third period
by shutting down the Falcons offence. Sarnia grabbed an empty-netter to
make the final score 4-1 inside the St. Catharines Seymour-Hannah Sports
& Entertainment Complex.
The Falcons next game is at home inside Jack Gatecliff
Arena on Friday, October 17th, when the Wheatfield Jr. Blades visit for
the third time this season. Game time is 7:30pm.
