Blades cut Falcons in OT

The Wheatfield Jr. Blades made the trip across the border
to play their third game of the regular season inside Jack Gatecliff Arena
Friday night. The Jr. Blades were looking to win two games in a row after
coming away with an overtime win against the Stoney Creek Warriors one
night earlier.

Wheatfield played a good first 20 minutes of play as
they shutout the Falcons and put up a goal for themselves on the scoreboard.

Sinclair at the 18:45 mark of the first period.
Though the Falcons were outshooting the Jr. Blades 8-7
by the first intermission, Wheatfield was sitting with the lead.

Though the Falcons had countless man-advantages in the
second period, they couldn't put one past the Jr. Blades goaltender Daniel
Ramirez. Wheatfield extended their lead with an insurance goal from Chris
Williams at the 12:41 minute mark, on the power-play.
The Falcons finally hit the back of the net with a goal
less than 2 minutes later at 14:24 of the second period. Riley Jakobschuk
was credited with his 6th goal of the season, with assists to Matt Lorito
and Chris Langdon.
The score remained 2-1 for Wheatfield at the end of 40
minutes of play, though the Falcons dominated the shots on net 20-7 over
the Jr. Blades for a two-period total of 28-14 in favour of St. Catharines.

St. Catharines had no choice but to forecheck in the
third period in an attempt to tie or win the game against the defensive
Jr. Blades. Their efforts finally paid off with Riley Jakobschuk's tying
goal at 7:11 of the third, his second goal of the night. Falcons forward
Chris Garbacz grabbed the lone assist on the play.
Overtime was needed to resolve this match, and on a two-on-one
the Wheatfield Jr. Blades scored on a rebound to win the game with 22
seconds remaining in the extra period of play. The win was the Jr. Blade's
first ever inside Jack Gatecliff Arena. Josh Schmitt stole the overtime
winner for Wheatfield. The win pushes the Jr. Blades up to 11 points on
the season, while St. Catharines hits the 20 point notch with the overtime
loss.
Attendance was announced at 478 fans inside Jack Gatecliff
Arena Friday night. The Falcons next game is on the road when they travel
to Welland on Sunday to face the Jr. Canadians inside the Main Arena.
Game time is 7:05pm.
The Falcons next home game is Tuesday, October 21st,
when the Niagara Falls Canucks visit the Garden City for their first time
this season. The puck drops at 7:30pm sharp fans!
