Falcons sink Pirates

The fifth-place Port Colborne Pirates visited Jack Gatecliff
Arena Friday night to face the first-place Mountainview Homes Falcons
in their second trip to St. Catharines this season. The Falcons shutout
the Pirates 2-0 back on Friday, September 26th.

With few scoring chances, the first period was quiet
with neither team registering a goal. As well, the referees only handed
out one penalty to each side in the first 20 minutes of play. Shots on
net at the first intermission were 9-3 in favour of St. Catharines.

The Falcons scored first in the second period to grab
a 1-0 lead with an even-strength goal from Riley Jakobschuk. His 13th
goal of the season came assisted from Dylan McInnis just 51 seconds into
the period.
St. Catharines doubled their lead just over a minute
later when Adam Moroney netted his 4th of the year. Captain Andrew Kilcar
and Adam Montgomery added helpers on the Falcons second goal of the game.
The Falcons third goal of the second period, a power-play
marker, was the first for Falcon newcomer Matt Paton, recently picked
up from the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. Riley Sheahan assisted
on Paton's first goal in a red sweater.
Shots in the second period were 14-8 in favour of St.
Catharines for a two-period total of 23-11 for the Mountainview Homes
Falcons.

The Falcons opened the third period with a band when
Riley Jakobschuk scored his second of the night just 21 seconds into the
period. Adam Moroney and Miles Torch assisted on the Falcons fourth goal
of the game.
St. Catharines scored their fifth goal of the game at
the 12:47 mark of the third period, when Chris Langdon beat Pirates netminder
Nicholas Gigone for his second marker of the season. Matt Lorito squeaked
in an assist on the play.
The Mountainview Homes Falcons added a sixth goal before
the end of the game to make the score 6-0. Matt Lorito added a goal to
his assist on the night, a power-play marker, at the 14:58 minute mark.
Chris Langdon and Riley Jakobschuk assisted.
The Falcons 18th win of the season Friday night gives
them 38 points overall as they remain in first place in the Golden Horseshoe
Conference. It was also their 5th shutout of the season. Tim Egloff received
credit for the shutout as he turned away all 15 shots faced. The Falcons
outshot the visiting Pirates 32-17.
Attendance was announced at 590 fans inside JGA Friday
night. The Falcons next game is on the road Saturday, November 15th, when
they travel to Niagara Falls for a 7:30pm start against the Canucks. The
Falcons next home game is Friday, November 21st, when the Lambton Shores
Predators travel to the Garden City for an inter-conference game. Game
time next Friday is 7:30pm.
